Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
What is Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG)?
Coronary artery bypass surgery is a cardiac surgical procedure aimed at restoring normal blood flow to the
heart when the coronary arteries are severely narrowed or blocked. It consists of creating a new pathway
(bypass) that diverts blood around the blocked area using a healthy blood vessel taken from the leg, arm, or
chest.
This life-saving surgery helps prevent heart attacks and significantly improves the quality of life of
patients suffering from advanced coronary artery disease.
Medical Indications
- Severe angina (stable or unstable)
- Multiple or complex coronary artery narrowings
- Failure of angioplasty or inability to place a stent
- High frequency of heart attacks or recurrent events
- Diabetes with diffuse coronary artery disease
- Significant reduction in cardiac function
Surgical Techniques Offered
Conventional Coronary Bypass Surgery
(On-Pump)
- Bare-metal stents
- Drug-eluting stents: reduce the risk of restenosis
-
Bioresorbable stents: next-generation stents that
naturally dissolve
Off-Pump Coronary Bypass Surgery
(Beating-Heart)
- No cardiac arrest and no cardiopulmonary bypass
- Less invasive with faster recovery
- Indicated for certain high-risk profiles (elderly or fragile patients)
Minimally Invasive Bypass or Robot-Assisted Surgery (In Selected Cases)
- Smaller incisions
- Shorter hospital stay
- Reduced scarring
Techniques are selected based on your cardiac condition, anatomy, and the surgeon’s recommendations.
